World Horse Welfare launches third series of Horses Explained

World Horse Welfare has launched a third series of its educational video programme Horses Explained, bringing together vets, welfare scientists and equine specialists to talk through the decisions that shape a horse's life. The seven-part series covers whether to breed, caring for an in-foal mare, foaling, weaning, young horse care, horses in work, and caring for veteran horses, with each free episode running around 20 minutes.

The series is designed to give owners, breeders and carers practical, evidence-based guidance at each stage of a horse's life rather than treating welfare as a single decision made at the point of sale or competition. World Horse Welfare has framed the programme as part of its wider view that good welfare has to run from breeding and early handling right through to retirement and end-of-life care, not just apply at the competition venue.

For breeders in particular, the early episodes on whether to breed and on caring for in-foal mares and foals set out current thinking on responsible breeding decisions, an area where clear, accessible guidance from veterinary and welfare specialists remains valuable. The series is available to watch free of charge on World Horse Welfare's website, with new episodes released weekly.
